Clermont-Ferrand University Hospital, SurgAR and Medexprim, are proud to announce their three-year strategic partnership to accelerate the development of SurgAR’s augmented reality software, dedicated to laparoscopic surgery (Read French Press Release here).

The University Hospital Center (CHU) of Clermont-Ferrand, an establishment, which has been ranked in the top 20 French hospitals for 9 years, offers a public offering around care, education, research, prevention and training of health professionals. The center brings together 7,000 agents serving patients and accommodates 662 interns and 853 students.

SurgAR, founded by Professors Adrien Bartoli and Nicolas Bourdel, gynecological surgeon at Clermont-Ferrand University Hospital, has developed an augmented reality software suite that allows for the superimposition of virtual information (derived from preoperative radiological imaging data) to real-time surgical view. The result of fruitful cooperation between Clermont-Ferrand University Hospital and Clermont-Auvergne University, this breakthrough is the result of 11 years of research and expertise. Placing the patient and his well-being at the heart of his approach, this technology intelligently guides the surgeon and thus increases the precision of his gestures. It is therefore a guarantee of quality and safety, aimed at reducing complication rates, intervention times, and hospitalizations.

Medexprim is an accelerator of hospital clinical research and a tool for leveraging data from its partner hospitals. A trusted technical and legal partner to biopharmaceutical companies and hospitals, Medexprim aggregates imaging and clinical data into a homogeneous and qualitative whole, in compliance with ethics and regulations, and provides hospitals with clinical data warehouses.

This partnership, a first in French university hospitals, will allow the creation of a unique database of surgical videos applied to machine learning.

SurgAR and Medexprim aim to work together with a network of European hospitals, whether they are existing partners of Medexprim or SurgAR. This partnership is a further step in the development of innovative solutions from Medexprim and SurgAR in the service of research and the well-being of patients. Over the next three years, the solution will be deployed at 12 sites in France and in Europe.
